Well, okay, maybe not a Librarian with a capital ‘L’. I’m actually called a Learning Resources Centre Manager. I work in a Secondary School in a leafy part of the British Isles. I guess it would be High School in the USA. I went on several courses when I first got the job, and met real ‘Librarians’. OMG! Scary individuals – the Volturi of the book lending world, but not as good-looking (mainly bearded, both male and female!) – Yikes!

I work with a part-time assistant. I shall refer to her as ‘P’. She is very rich and only does the job for the social interaction. She calls it her ‘charity work’, as she (and I) are usually in the negatives when we look at our pay-slips and compare the meagre sum to what we’ve forked out for new stockings/tights (depending on the weather) each month! The shelving is poor and splintered. Is that common to all school libraries/LRCs?

Abbreviations are essential, because if my secret bloggings were known to my employers, I’m pretty sure I’d get the proverbial ‘boot’! And I couldn’t afford to lose my job, as I have a gorgeous daughter, ‘Y’, to support and look after and generally adore – but single-handedly! xx
